JANUARY Update
Happy New Year!
I pray that 2025 is filled with countless blessings for you and your loved ones!
This month, as we reflect on beginnings and endings, I’d like to celebrate Ms. Felicia Baptiste! Ms. Baptiste has served as a general education teacher, School Leadership Team co-chair, Data Specialist and Instructional Leadership Team member at BLES. She has established and maintained positive relationships with her colleagues, scholars and families and has worked hard to help create a safe, respectful, positive and welcoming community at BLES. I am excited to share that Ms. Baptiste will be the Interim Acting Assistant Principal at BEES, located on the 3rd floor of our building. Please wish her well as she transitions into this new position!
The Middle of the Year Assessment window is now open and your children will take the IReady and/or Acadience assessments. The more often we monitor our scholars’ progress, the greater the likelihood that they will succeed. These results will be shared with you in a Progress Report at the end of the month.
Our Academic After School program for grades 3-5 will begin on Tuesday 1/14. More details will be shared with families next week.
New York City has seen a holiday surge in the flu and RSV cases. We want you and your loved ones to stay healthy. Here are some reminders to avoid getting sick:
- Limit close contact: Keep a safe distance from sick individuals and stay away from others when you’re unwell.
- Rest at home when sick: Stay home until you’re feeling better and have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.
- Cover coughs and sneezes: Use a tissue or your elbow to cover coughs and sneezes and consider wearing a mask to protect others.
- Wash your hands regularly: Clean your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer when soap isn’t available.
- Avoid touching your face: Refrain from touching your eyes, nose, or mouth to prevent germs from entering your body.
- Improve indoor air quality: Open windows, use air purifiers or spend time outdoors to reduce exposure to viruses.
- Maintain good hygiene and health: Disinfect high-touch surfaces, get enough rest, stay active, eat nutritious foods, manage stress, and stay hydrated.
