Message from BLES Administration

  • March Families' Letter

Dear Brooklyn Landmark Elementary School Families,

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of our families for your participation, creativity, and support throughout our Black History Month activities. Our students’ projects, BHM SHOW, and class celebrations truly reflected the spirit of learning, leadership, and cultural appreciation that make our school community so special. Your partnership helped bring this important history to life for our children, and we are deeply grateful.

Welcome to MARCH! This month, we honor Women’s History Month, recognizing the trailblazing women—past and present—who have shaped our society and opened doors for future generations. Our classrooms will be engaging in activities, stories, and projects that highlight women’s achievements across a wide range of fields, and we encourage you to continue those conversations at home.

March is also a meaningful time for many of our families observing Ramadan. To those who will be participating in fasting, prayer, community gatherings, and acts of giving, we wish you a peaceful and blessed month. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support your child during this time.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership, trust, and dedication to our school community. We look forward to a month filled with learning, celebration, and unity.

    With appreciation,
    Gina Dawson

  • FEBRUARY 2026 PRINCIPAL LETTER TO FAMILIES

    Dear Esteemed BLES Families,

As we move through this frigid February winter, I want to remind our families how important daily attendance is for our scholars. Every day truly counts. Our dedicated staff is planning and teaching engaging, rigorous, and meaningful lessons that support your child’s growth and success. Thank you for ensuring your scholar is on time and present.

Our Interim Assessments are now completed, and you should have received a Progress Report on January 30, 2026. Please reach out to your scholar’s teacher—or let me know directly—if you did not receive the Progress Report so we can ensure you have the most up-to-date information regarding your child’s academic progress. We will shortly also be sending out Promotion-In-Doubt letters to scholars who may qualify for an additional year of learning.

As we enter Black History Month (BHM), we look forward to celebrating the rich history, contributions, and achievements of Black leaders, innovators, and communities. Our scholars will engage in meaningful learning experiences that honor this important month and deepen their understanding of history. You are also invited to share in this learning at home — here is a video you can watch with your scholar to help kick off Black History Month:
